Dead High Beams
No High beams. No passing flash. The regular lights cut out when I go to high beams. No failed light indicator. Just goes dark. Fuses are good. I'm thinking the combination switch. Just want to double check
Vehicle is a 92 W124 300D Thanks in advance. Bob

Do you know which fuse to replace?
Did you replace the fuse? |

Sounds like the relay to me.

hmm interesting I have this same problem and assumed it was the combination switch. How would I test the relay??

You know it may be that there is no relay for the headlights in these cars, and all the control is in the combo switch. I'll have to look at a wiring diagram later. I was reverting back to my VW knowledge. .

I'm still not used to the "push high-beam, pull low-beam" arrangement.

I have half that problem - high beams work, flash doesn't work. Pretty clearly a combo switch problem in my case. Check the 14-pin(?) connector from the combination switch below the steering column just ahead of the brake pedal. If I read the diagram correctly, pins 1 and 2 should show continuity with the switch in high beam position and pins 2 and 11 should show continuity in flash position. The high beam indicator in the dash is powered downstream of the fuses but upstream of the relay. If the indicator doesn't light, the problem is likely upstream of the relay. Looks like fuses 15 and 16 are the high beam fuses.

Oh, the relay is an exterior lamp monitoring system. It's the long box in the aft section of the engine bay fuse box. Doesn't actually switch anything.

Have you used a volt meter at the socket and checked for voltage?
Could be combo switch, fuses , or burned out bulbs.

Hello. Yes I've swapped out the high beam fuses. They're good. Guess you missed where I originally stated fuses are good.
Guess I'm looking at a combination switch.

I simply wish an answer to my original question. Do you know the number of the fuse for the high beams? What is the number? Did you replace the fuse with a brand new fuse..........or did you just look at it and confirm that it's good? Or, you can just go change the combination switch.........your choice.
