It should only get power when the A/C refrigerant gets warm.

thanks for the reply, Forcd Induc. My next question, will the front fan still go on if the A/c is not working Because the A/C doesn't work , but the front fan goes on. So I'm thinking the fuse is blown or the temputor sender not working So which fuse should I check & were would the sending unit be ? Thanks again Forcd or any one

In your first post you say "Not getting power to the front electric fan." In your second post you say "Because the A/C doesn't work , but the front fan goes on."

So does the fan work or not?

The auxiliary fan is controlled by a 52C temperature switch in the refrigerant line and a relay (I don't know where it is located). The relay is connected to two fuses in the fuse box. Fuse "C" (16 Amps Red) is the power to the fan. Fuse 14 (8 Amps white) is the power to the relay coil. Both fuses must be good for the fan to operate.

The fuse box is on the firewall, jammed between the left fender and the power brake booster.

Is your car a T-sedan (station wagon)?

That fan is controlled by a temp switch on the drier. When the freon in the system gets to certian temp, the fan comes on. You can testt he fan by either jumping the leads together or by running wires from the battery to the fan.

No. Its only for the A/C system. Only the 78-80 300SD used the front fan for the engine coolant.

The 603 engines also use the electric pusher fan(s) for the engine coolant, but only as a backup for the belt driven fan.

On 85 W123 sedans the relay lives under the black plastic cover on the driver's side wheel well. I would assume other W123 models would be similar.

Question

Hi guys; thanks for everybodies response on thefront fan. Yes its a 85 300td wagon. and front fan runs off A/C , found the fuses ,relay & sender. I put direct current from the battery to the fan & the fan goes on So how can I ck the relay & sending unit? The reason I'm confuse is because the A/C does not work but the fan went on when engine temp. got hotter
Can anyone tell me what I need to do Thanks again

Well then it sounds like everything is working as it should. Guess the 85s have an overheat sensor like the later cars. The pusher fan should never come on if the belt driven fan is working properly. I would look into that.

What did the dash gauge read when the fan came on?

All my aux fans come on either when the freon temp reaches a certain point or when the engine temp reaches a certain point. {ie: comes on without AC}
Even my 240's do this.....
Sounds like you are working normally, although I would have to reread from the top to be sure. too lazy..........
