87 300TD For Parts Question

My 300TD looks like it's suffered some major engine problem (possibly cracked block?) and I'm wondering what I might get parting it out. The interior is in very good shape and the body is fair. I'd hope to squeeze a grand out of it, but is that reasonable? Would I have to sell various parts or be able to sell it whole? My preference is to just get rid of it and be done, but I've spent enough on this car over the last two years that I'd like to get at least $1000 back out of it.

For the record, the turbo, transmission, injection pump all seem to work beautifully.

Any suggestions?

Where are you located? I might be interested in the whole car, I have an engine, ...

As far as parts. If you're willing to pull it apart, it's well worth the thousand. If the head is a newer head / not original, it is worth most of that by itself if in good condition(original head most likely). The turbo is worth a couple hundred, IP, lights and switches, wood, dash, all depends on whether the part looks and functions as it should.

The down-side is that most of the big parts; engine, transmission, diff, seats, body parts, etc. are a big hassle to ship and if you aren't willing to ship, most people aren't interested (How do I know? I have parts of previous projects in my shop I can't give away). You will also have to pay someone to haul away the remaining bodywork, and at only around $70/ton for auto steel right now, you might not cover the towing.

If you do part it, I want stuff!

i guess it depends on your patience and how much space you have to part out the vehicle. i dont, so i would just sell it as is.

if you part it out, i am sure you can get more than a grand and then sell the carcass to a metal recycler. people nowadays who do this will pick it up for you too as metal prices are still increasing.

if you decide to part it out, i'd be interested in your vacuum pump if it is the new style and also depending on the mileage on it. oh, if its blue interior, i have a few interior parts needs

I think I'm dealing with a cracked head and will be either selling the car whole or parting it out. I have a local offer for $500 so pm me if you're interested.

Thanks.
