Smashed rear window, 300TD 1982

Someone threw a rock / brick through my rear window

They then proceeded to steal a pair of old pair of siz 12 crocs nothing else. I am finding the homeless in NO more annoying than usual.

Does anyone in New Orleans know of a junk yard where I can purchase a used one or is it possible to swap one out? Or will it break in the process?

I have an 82 300TD

Thanks
Matthew

I dont know where to find one, but getting it in shouldn't be too hard. Just be sure to buy a new rubber seal to go around the glass if the old one has any cracks or large cuts..

the best way ive found to install glass thats not glued in, is to put the rubber on the glass then wrap a piece of small insulated wire around the entire window, inside the rubber, make sure the ends of the wire are over lapped a ways 6-10" and accessible . Spray some windex around the wire. Then get a buddy to help place the glass where it needs to go, then get in the car and find the ends of the wire, get your helper to press on the glass, from the outside, to get the rubber to start pulling inwards on the lip where the rubber should be.. once you get the rubber overlapped, slowly pull the wire, make sure you dont pull it out (Hold the other end) by pulling the wire you should see that the rubber can be pulled to the inside of the window frame. basically thats all it takes, just work your way around, some spots you may need to use a screw driver to pull the seal, but usually it just pops in..

Then pop the trim pieces back in (if equipped) wipe the window down with some windex and go for a test drive.

You may check your insurance company and claim on your comprehensive coverage.

I just removed and replaced the Rear Window on my car so I could repair the Rust under ther rubber. I never felt I was in danger of breaking the glass.

Pull the rubber of and check for rust before you start.

Be sure the new window still has the 2 (1 on each side copper strips or wires connected to it). Who ever previously replaced my window yanked off the strips on the old window.

I have a rear hatch glass, however its still installed in my car. I'm swapping it out for a rear window that has a working defroster, my current one doesn't work (I'm getting 12 volts at the connections, already checked that). So if you're having a lot of trouble finding one locally, send me a PM. If we have a warm day here sometime next month, I'm planing on swapping the windows. So hopefully it'll be available in a few weeks.

Unrelated..I'm originally from NOLA and will be there all next week for christmas. If you're around, we can meet for a drink and I can show you how the window comes out.
