HAZET P/N for 3 Wrench Set?

As many of us know, there are very many threads on this diesel forum that deal with valve adjustment on the OM617 engine, some of which mention the HAZET wrenches - but I haven't read any so far with any detailed item info.

I intend to buy the HAZET set initially but so far after much searching here and on a tool vendor's site from Wyoming that lists almost 6,000 HAZET items, I haven't found part number information for the 3 wrench set.

Does anyone have the HAZET part number of the preferred wrench set so I can ask a vendor for exactly what is considered the best choice for the OM617 valve adjustment?

Thanks for any information on this...

Richard Howard

Look under "Valve" here:

http://www.samstagsales.com/mercedes.htm#valve

The bent wrenches come in a long and short version. Some people like one of each, so you don't bang your knuckles. Having tried it both ways, I think I prefer two of the longer wrenches, though.

I have not seen a part number for the complete set (Mercedes sells them as a set but I do not know the numer).
Individual wrench part numbers:
Long handled 14mm Valve adjusting wrench part number = 2769

They also make a short handled valve adjusting wrench part number = 2769-1

Valve Spring Wrench (the one that keeps the Valve Spring Retainer from rotating) part number = 2765-3

Spring (for the Valve Spring Wrench); This sprint attetches to the Valve Spring Wrench but this part I beileves already comes with the Valve Spring Wrench and is bought as a replacment part only if something happens to your origional ask the tool dealer for details = 2769-30

To get some idea what is out there do an Ebay search "Mercedes Valve Wrenches".
Also be careful; some Sellers are selling the set with 2 short 14mm wrenches or 1 short wrench and 1 long 14mm wrenches. Before you buy ask the Seller what part numbered wrenches they are selling.

tangofox007 has the best website I've found and Diesel911 has the correct part numbers. You'll need two 2769's and one 2769-3.

Avoid eBay. It is extremely rare to actually buy a new in box item that is any cheaper than one from a real store. The tool set is a little over $100 and you are assured of getting the right tools.

Ebay is a mixed blessing. After being outbid on many occasions I got my Hazet 3 wrench set for around $60 and that included the shipping. Used but in excellent condition. I also got a Timing Chain Crimping tool for $125. Thats the good.
Today I recieved 2 packages from 2 different Ebay Sellers. Both Sellers has 100% Feedback.
Rsults:
Seller #1- 261 Chevy cartridge type Oil Filter Housing- Parts are missing from the inside of the filter; the 2 discs that you need to seal the Filter Element.

Seller #2- Bought a Mercedes Volume #2 123 Chassise Manual (so far seems complete), 1985 Mercedes Maintenance Manual, Passenger Cars [this manual has a section of pages missing and this was not stated in the Sellers ad.] It also came with a sales Brochure and some cut out magazine articles and some parts list of Mercedes.

I only sent the Sellers messages a few minutes ago so I do not know what response I will get from them.

So sometimes you win on Ebay and some time you do not.

Thanks for the responses... especially from tangofox007 and Diesel911. Ordered a 3 pc set this afternoon from Samstag, includes two of the 225mm wrenches plus the retainer for $96 plus USPS mail charge of $4.75. These will be new items... Part number HZ-2769 gets the 3 pc set...

Bend your own

I found some longer than normal wrenches at Auto-zone. A little heat from a torch at the muffler shop and presto, they work great. Hint bend one wrench open end to the left and one to the right.

Thanks for your suggestion.
The filter housing shipping + item cost was $21 so I felt that it is not worth the lose of the shipping both ways and decided to keep the Filter Housing (I need it for a project I am working on). If I want to can make the 2 missing parts with out too much problem.
I just did not like the idea that the seller was to lazy to take a look and see if it was complete.
However, I never intended to use the Filter Housing with the stock Filter Element. I will try to use the filter housing to make a Bypass Oil Filter similar to the Frantz Toilet Paper type filter but using a different media for the filter.

The Book Seller has not responded yet so I will wait and see on that one.

If you file a dispute and win, PayPal will refund your entire payment to the seller, including the shipping cost charged by the seller. (You are all but guaranteed to win an "Item Not As Described" claim.) You only pay for the item to be shipped back to the seller.
