Euro headlight protector flim

I remember reading a while back about a protective film that members were putting on their euro headlights. What are they and where do you get them?

How much do you need dog?

I started making these in '85, probably have a partial roll around, mine were static-cling though so you could remove them for that Euro-light pure light pattern (the film degrades the lense quality while on).

Xpel.
https://www.xpel.com/products/headlight_protection.asp?prevtype=1&prevyear=1977&prevmake=26&prevmodel=0&prevsubmodel=0&prevseries=0&type=1&year=1977&make=26&model=1965

When I bought mine they didn't have any for the euro headlamps so I actually bought the universal kit and cut my own.

I also just bought a kit form Xpel for my Acura, and will get some bulk for the W201 when I put the Euros on.

I bought my film direct from xpel, as in post #7. I bought a generic rectangle kit for the '87 (W124), which has Euro headlights, and I bought two round sets – a pair of 7" and a pair of 5", for the W123, which has Hella headlamps and fogs. The rectangle pieces had enough left over to do the fog lamps on the '96 E300D so I got all three cars covered for under $50, as I recall.

The flatter glass curvature of the Hella lamps in the W123 made installation easy – I'm not sure I could get the film to adhere properly on DOT headlamps with their greater lens curvature.

A year+ later, they're all doing well.

How well do they work? Will they prevent cracks or just the "sandblasing" which my lights already have?

The thicker 40mil or better seems to be the ticket for reducing the impact force of stones etc, although the thicker it is, the more it affects light pattern.

Perfect so far (but hard to test). I don't want to close-follow a truck on a dirty road and sandblast my paint just to see if the headlight protection works.

babymog: I just need enough to cover my euro lights. Rough measurements look like about 15" X 8" for each light. You have me a little worried with the degradation of the lens, over how much time does that happen? How does it affect the lens?

I see that Xpel tests with 1" diameter stones (about 1oz.) at speeds up to 120 m.p.h. with no damage to the lens. They offer a 5 year warranty on the headlight protector.
