I used "Mother's" mag & aluminum polish on the valve cover and fuel lines. Seems to do a fairly good job. Bill.

My primary cleaning tools were a bucket of hot soapy (dish detergent) water and an assortment of (hand-operated) wire brushes. I scrubbed the manifold for about half an hour and was able to remove most of the corrosion or whatever it was. I followed up this cleaning with a second one using steel wool and Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish. The results can be seen in the following "before" and "after" pictures.

I shoulda looked here first man - you did a great job. I have all these parts sitting on my work bench - yeaterday I couldn't get the intake and crossover pipe to clean out (full, I mean packed FULL of black sticky tar). I want mine to look like yours. Going to follow your tip and see if I can do it.
