87 300sdl driver window not working

I have a 87 300sdl, with a drivers side window that will only go up and down if I push the window (by hand) down about 4 inches. Then the window will function normally. So I take off the door liner and find out that the tooth of the gear is stripped. So that explains the problem. It looks like the motor is working just fine. But the gear that attaches to the motor has grinded away its teeth. So I’m not needing a complete motor. Just the gear. So here is the problem I’m facing.

What regulator do I need to purchase for this specific make and model. Is there a brand that will last longer, because I don't want to have this problem again.

I’ve checked around with local junk yards and it seems like the 86-87 years are harder to find.

Thanks for your help,

Broaden your search to 86-87 420SEL and 560SEL. Same body. My guess is you can stretch it all the way to any 81-91 S-class sedan. Not sure if SWB rear window mechanisms fit LWB doors. LWBs outnumber SWBs in junkyards so you should be fine.

While there may be some difference over the years, they all interchange, as long as you exchange the complete unit (motor and regulator).

All front regulators interchange. The rears fo not between the LWB and SWB cars. Grab the entire assembly. Just make sure that the plastic clips that connect to the window are in good shape
