I have sheep skin on my seat....I've never really been shocked in a MB....no matter what type of interior. Its probably the metal door handles....that has to help. In cars with plastic handles, I get shocked all the time.

Our rav4's interior is like a static creation chamber....

Ground strap

I've seen cars driving around with what looks like a strap dragging on the ground. They look like they should be holding up one side of the fuel tank.

I asked a friend of mine what the story was with his strap dragging on the ground and he told me it eliminated static electricity. He had a big drawn out explanation but I lost interest and went back to my beer.

Anybody else hear of that or see those things?

What about the real shocks that I get when I plug in the block heater when it's wet and touch the bumper or metal things nearby.

I remember seeing gas trucks back in the 50`s having a static straps dragging under the truck. I don`t think i see that much anymore.

DEBURGER, plug your cord into the engine block first, then connect the extension cord into your supply source. or you will be dancing a jig in the puddles .

I still see the rubber straps on the city buses around my area, but that may be the city being extra cautious due to the buses being CNG fueled.

As to the grounding straps as it relates to MB's, I'm not sure about the other models, but on my w126, there are little spring loaded clips stuck into the spindles that rub on the oil cap.
The explanation that I was given for those little clips was to help ground the car through the tires, making a more reliable circuit than trying to conduct through the bearings.

ya. static in the winter is murder. and as long as you remember to hold onto metal to the frame of the vehicle BEFORE YOU START TO EXIT THE VEHICLE you will not get a shock.
