240D 5 Speed

Found one for sale with a salvage title....

Its looks pretty rough, but I was told today over the phone that it runs and drives.

Whats a fair offer, $250?

Yep, because the tranny is the draw. Double that price if you have to. It would still be a good deal...... [see how easy I can spend your $$$]

Wow!

I didn't even know that those existed. I wonder how responsive the car is in 5th gear. Maybe you can only use it when driving down hill.

No but you would need to downshift to accelerate or climb.

At least there are still some out there. The 240ds really benifit from them. I missed one by a close margin. Really drop the revolutions on the highway as the fifth is an overdrive ratio for the uninformed.

Wonder if the oportunity will occur again. My understanding perhaps wrong is that they are not laying around europe in substantial numbers either. Anyways congratulations and a happy christmas to all.

That would be a great price for the tranny, I am trying to bring one from Europe now for my 300SD. I can get them cheap for $150-$200 (from ex Polish taxi, ) The problem comes with shipping and elevates the total cost to 700-800 American Dollars. So go for it before someone else will grab it

It is really helpful to either be changing from manual four to five... or to have the whole car there to take the other stuff out of ... like the clutch pedal...
The 123 model is a bolt out bolt in deal since they were available both ways..
I have never heard of anyone doing it to another model of our MB's...
