Electric plug/cord for block heater 300 DT

Mercedes 300 gurus,
Looking for some help in the ease or not of replacing the plug/cord that powers the block heater.

Is it something I can swap out from a parts (cord only) or do I have to replace the entire unit.

It was severed, plug is off with about 1.5 foot of wire, remaining wire still attached to heater.

Looking for any advice/counsel that can lead to fixing it.

Thanks,
Tim

The cord is separably replaceable. If the damaged cord is a factory cord, there's a cap that screws into/onto/over the block heater itself. You unscrew the cap, then unplug the cord. Aftermarket cords just unplug. Least expensive fix is to remove the damaged cord stub, graft on a new cord w/ line plug and replace. Factory replacement cords are about $70, come with cap and heat insulation, etc. Aftermarket cords are much less expensive.

I just wired a new plug end on to mine. It cost $3 or so. You could always solder more wire on first if it is too short now.

The exact replacement is made by Zerostat, I bought mine at a Detroit Diesel dealer.

I needed a new press-on cord and got one from www.*********.com. Sorry guys they were less expensive and super fast, they had it in my hands in 36 hours with normal shipping. 18 bucks out the door to my doorstep.

And now my diesel is warm and happy despite the 4 degree temps outside
