Good idea. Unless you happen to pull in and the Iffylube people tell you they refuse to change oil in a Mercedes diesel, like they do in some place in Southern CA. The management instructed that particular shop to send Mercedes diesels on somewhere else.
I recall the story goes their "highly trained technicians" managed to destroy at least two diesel engines when they failed to either put the O-ring in properly (perhaps by stacked another O-ring on the old one on the cannister cover) or put the wrong oil in an engine or left the filler cap off or something. Their corporate people probably saw the losses from lawsuits and sent the orders out from on high.
One person posted a story about driving out of an Iffylube and seeing smoke from under the hood they quickly went back and was able to get it fixed.

I remember these stories. Then one day I drive past an Iffylube I saw what was an obvious boo-boo, right in front of the place a big pool of oil! A car had either driven off and was not aware of it or maybe (hopefully) they discovered the problem and put the car in reverse and had it fixed - - whatever there was clearly a trail of oil out of Iffylube and on the pavement there at the light right in front of the shop at the corner where was this pool of fresh oil

I recognize fresh oil how it looks because I spilled a bunch of it at a few times myself. I should have stopped and gone it to ask if they knew what they had done wrong but I stayed out of it.

I used Jiffylube once and that was the last time, on a trip, they are slow and too expensive and I plain don't trust the kids they employ and from that experience, if I am away from home I carry my own oil and filter and have used an Indy Oil place or (I confess) while in the desert of W Texas I found a old hole next to a dead Coyote and left an oil sample there (tsk

I rediscovered the Email Baldwin sent me concerning the Micron Rating of the P102 Oil filter.
The Full Flow section has a Micron Rating of 18 microns and the by-pass section has a Micron Rating of 15 microns.
Both Full Flow and the By-pass section used pleted filter media.

Also notice from my previous post #25 in this thread that the Baldwin Full Flow section at 18 microns is a good deal better than the Mann filter Full Flow section at 27 microns.

bypass filter

I once saw a demonstration of a quite expensive 'bypass filter system' being sold by Amsoil. I was quite imprressed. You diesel owners talk about soot. The demonstrator put lamp black in oil and then ran the black oil thru the filter system. Amazing how clear the oil was after filtering. The presenter was advocating very long change intervals. Looked like an interesting and viable alternative to frequent oil changes.
