300SDL Fluid Info

How much of the following Fluids does the 300SDL Hold to operate optimally?

-Coolant?
-Auto Trans Fluid?
-Power Steering fluid?
-Rear Differential Fluid?
Thanks

What are the best types of these different fluids to use? I know Mercedes Makes their own coolant, and power steering fluid. But about the other two?

I think your owners manual should contain that info.

Check the owners manual, but lets see if I can remember off the top of my head!

Oil 8 quarts.

I think the last time I changed the coolant I had to add about 8 quarts back into the system, but I cheat I only drain the radiator.

The rear end is about 1 and a quarter bottles of the Mobil 1 75w90 gear oil Autozoo sells. Just shoot it in until you can stick your finger into the fill hole and feel it.

The trans I forget, probably 6 or 7 quarts.

Power steering is probably a couple of quarts.

I use Mercedes coolant and power steering fluid, everything else is either Mobil 1 or Amsoil. My Mercedes only get the best.

First of all, your oil refill capacity after a drain is going to be 8.5 quarts, not 8.0. Careful...

Also, rear diff is no problem at all PROVIDED that you get both plugs out without finding one stripped. Be SURE to take the filler off first, then the drain, so you don't get under there and discover after you drain the old stuff that you have no way to get new back in.

Doing the rear end sucks, gear oil stinks and it drips down your arms. But other than that its easy. As said above make sure you take out the top plug first.

Many folks get the oil level between min and max, no higher. Filling to max somehow causes consumption. Many folks, though not necessarily the same folks , pour in 2 gallons during an oil change.

There's continuous debate about coolant but the non gambling types stick with MB label coolant or Zerex G05.

Brake fluid should be on your list.

Diff oil is easy to change, I'd take it anyday over the trans!

No kidding, the Mobil 1 stuff is crazy expensive. I use valvoline synthetic trans fluid in all our cars, and Rotella Synthetic in the engines. The only place I use Mobil 1 is in the rear diff, since thats not changed very often, and the engine in our 300E.....the 0w40 stuff....only gets changed twice a year, so its not a big deal.
