I have got the roof of the barn off of the car. I will have to get some photos. The rear door is damaged, and the roof if toast.
Can I put this engine in a 78CD? found one with a seized engine but do not know if it is what I want to do.
Ins. will cover part of the barn repair. Not the car....

Tried it again. Not too good at the photo thing

That is toast. I'm so sorry.

As for using the drivetrain in a 78 CD, the engine could be made to fit, but you would need a different radiator for sure, and I don't believe the transmissions are direct swaps, and I was told long ago on this forum that slapping a turbo motor in front of the older non-vacuum modulated transmissions was a bad idea, though I cannot recall the specific reason. I'm not even sure where to begin with rear end ratio differences that would give you fits.

Hmm... Sounds hard, eh? I'd try to do it, but I'm also a masochist when it comes to cars. My rat-trap 300D is a prime example. If you want help torturing yourself with such a swap, I could be convinced to lend a pair of hands. We do seem to live in the same state. :)

Oh, and that looks like my favourite seat colour! I'm trying to find some W126 seats like those for my 300D, but they are always growing green fuzzies when I find them.

Quite sorry to hear about that one. I loved the color on that car and it looked like it was in excellent shape.

I'm sorry for the loss of your car and garage. Which end of the state are you located?

Yeah, where are you located?

I am about 30 miles north of Vancouver WA.
After I decide what to do, may be willing to part with items....
But now I have got to get my 83 top notch, and I found a 83 I just bought this past weekend.
Can not afford to drive the truck long.

pawoSD 01-06-2009 01:52 AM

I'd swap the differential from the '85 into the '83.....as it has the 2.88 while the '83 has a 3.07, higher rpms on the highway.

blackestate 01-06-2009 11:14 AM

good info. Is it hard to change?

mobetta 01-06-2009 12:31 PM

they are not too difficult.

rrgrassi 01-06-2009 12:34 PM

Swap the speedo also so that your MPH and odo are accurate.

We saw images of a building like that whose roof collapsed in WA on the news out here around the same time. Could have been yours.
