Why are all you guys so down about the damage?? It really doesn't look that bad to me and I know a few good inexpensive body men that could bang that back out so you would never notice it! Your looking at some metal unbending, paint and glass plus rubber seals and maybe a door shell, that's all! I've repaired worse than this for christ sake. Let me know if you junk it. I'll find a way to take it and fix this one myself!:D

I'd look damn good in a burgundy S Class diesel!

Dam... whats going on here with these cars these days.

Very sorry for your loss. I know how you feel.

Dude --- that's not good! Looks like a really nice 126 too. Sorry....

Was there a full moon the last week or so...some odd alignment of the MB Diesel stars - I mentioned earlier about my 83 300D being 'keyed' on New Years Eve (thread coming when Insurance info available), then cphilip's fire, and now this!

bad things come in three's so maybe it is over!
I would like to fix it but they want too much $$. The roof, door and 3-4 good dents is all that is wrong with it.

Washington State sure has been having some extreme weather lately. I had so much snow my Mercedes wouldn't have even made it down my driveway. My Ford Explorer even had some challenges getting around my unplowed neighborhood with 14" snow. But it seems that no matter where your car is, it may not be safe. I was getting a little worried about the weight of the snow on the roof too, but the snow's all gone now.

Sorry to see this news....sad to see ANY of these cars meet a sad end. Fortunately I still see lots of SD's & SDLs around here still, so a drivetrain transplant should be pretty do-able & I suppose it never hurts to have spare parts around.

man, we had 3.5ft of snow. It is still not gone. I hate that stuff. It is a 4 letter word. And now it sounds like we are going to drown the next few days.... maybe I can turn her into a boat

Mental images of a Merc with pontoons and a paddlewheel came to mind. :) I don't think the world has seen that mod, yet.

Don't give up quite yet, something may happen to help this situation. If I lived closer to you, I'd offer to let you keep it in my shop so that it is safe for the time being.

Hey, is there maybe a chance to save on the roof repairs so that a portion of the roof settlement could funnel to the car repairs? Just a thought...

A Ford Explorer having some challenges in snow....really?

OK -- That was sarcastic - I'm sorry...that was't nice, so please forgive me and remember I'm a typical Land Rover lover when it comes to anything off-road! Can't beat em......!

Yea that is what I was thinking. That's why I asked where in WA he lived. I'm about 4 hours away though. I build things for a living, so I thought I might be able to help out with an estimate for the insurance company.:)

Yeah. I'd even be willing to drag a locally sourced salvage door, or maybe some glass down with me, and help drive nails, if it could help.

It's a nice drive, at least. :)

thanks for the offers. You guys are great.
The ins. Adjuster was here today, Had to take the 4X4 down and bring him across the flooded road. got to love the weather.
Should know what it is going to be in the next few days.
I found a replacement car. Just have to get all of the good parts from the 85 to it, after I get it to run properly.
What a blast of weather we are having....

There's a reason my 300D has a MercedesShop grille badge. A community isn't a community unless the members help each other. I've reaped the benefits of support from this place, so I'm more than happy to offer what I can to anyone here.

Awesome! So what is the official replacement car? You know the drill! Where are the photos? :D

Oh, and this is some interesting weather. We've made it on to CNN now. Just wait... the local nutjobs will soon be clamouring about a wave of locusts soon.

blackestate 01-08-2009 07:39 PM

The replacement is a silver 83 300sd. Chocolate brown interior. No power, blue smoke, all kinds of issues. But it will get a lot of parts from the 85 and make it a keeper I hope.
Pics soon...
