Where'd the Valvoline synthetic PS fluid go?

Autozone and Kragen in my area no longer carry Valvoline synthetic PS fluid. Autozone stopped carrying Mobil 1 ATF. I'll be stuck if Pep Boys doesn't have it either. What's going on?

Sorry, Brian, can't think of any Diesel content

Recently, I've seen a big change in the stocking of some local auto parts stores. I don't know if it's an inventory purge for tax reasons or a phase out to make the store leaner and meaner for profits. The local Pep Boys only had house brand transmission fluid and their oil selection was also significantly reduced.

There are significant internet sources for fluids but a larger order of total parts is required to meet the free shipping offers. Since I order most things on the internet, I find it isn't much of a problem to add to an order and have a quart on hand.

Same here. Autozone, Pep Boys, and Advance Auto all stopped carrying the Valvoline syn stuff, also the RedLine gasoline treatment. Ordered it all on-line instead.

Odd. I was looking for some for my Wanderlodge a few weeks ago at Walmart where I had bought some before and couldn't find it.

I got some Redline DFC for like $3 at autozone today! I think she just rang it up wrong, though. I didn't say anything.
I've noticed that some of these stores have less, if any, Mobil 1 TDT oil anymore. I was thinking about trying some for my next change, which will be soon.

I noticed the same thing. It was frustrating. They were clearing out the last few bottles of it for a dollar, I think, or so the Schucks website said. When I went to get some, they did not have any so I went to Carquest and bought Redline brand instead. I used the stuff to lubricate the throttle linkage also.

Valvoline's site doesn't show it and it is on closeout on some other sites. Here is one example.

I noticed that a while back too....so I just use the normal Valvoline Power Steering stuff, seems to work fine. In fact, my P/S pump was leaking quite a bit on the synthetic, but it has slowed the leak using the normal fluid...

I asked at autozone....they said its not available anymore.

I bought all 6quarts from my local autozone today, bought the last of it a couple of weeks ago, and a couple of weeks before that. Seems that they're only buying it a case at a time.

Yeah, stores seem to rarely have enough for me to do a change..I was going to get some last time but they only had 5 quarts. Got Rotella instead. I'll have to go hit up multiple shops, hopefully they aren't going to stop selling it. Shipping costs for oil are pretty high I considered getting Redline trans fluid once, but the shipping was like $17. I guess that isn't horrible, but it makes going with whatever is available locally a lot cheaper. I have yet to do the trans fluid, btw. It's also frustrationg when stores carry lines like Royal Purple, but not in the weight you want.

Maybe Valvoline discontinued it?

I use the Rotella 5w40....autozone has it in the gallon jugs. I buy one at a time to get a reward credit for each one. $40 for an oil change on the rotella....sure beats $65 on Mobil 1! (not including filter cost)

That may be true in an OM617, but not true in an OM60x engine. The last time I changed my oil, the 5w40 TDT oil was $22 a gallon. So I go 12,000 miles for $44 + the cost of the filter. I'm guessing you spend $80 or even $120 for the same mileage.

I'm not trying to start a new oil war for 2009. Just pointing out some facts.

there was a bountiful supply today at the local NAPA. As well as G05. Oh, the cornucopia of properly applied fluids!
