What do you think about putting a 240D engine in this?

Some day soon I am going to do the 300D turbo transplant into my 240D. I have had this old 1939 Willys pick-up since 1971. It does run but I would prefer something more modern for drivetrain. I thought about my 240D engine into this:

could be fun...
maybe a tad heavy?! what about putting the turbo in the truck? |
I guess if you enjoy racing stage coaches. If your going to go through all that trouble of engine swapping, why not use a 617? It should have plenty o' room under the hood.

I'd use a more modern engine like an OM601 or OM602. Both have more power than a 616 and get much better economy.
I think I'd keep that puppy stock. Cool rig.
I'd keep it stock too.
Man that thing is sweet!!! I would put a 2.6 inline 6. Sorry forced if you already said this put I don't know all those fancy engine codes and such
The 240 would be cool. With the light truck you will find its pretty peppy. I prefer the simplicity of the 616 617 engines over the more complicated and touchy later 601 602 603 engines.
I would do it in a heartbeat.
I vote to either keep it true to form or see if the engine bay will take a 617.95x motor.
Does the truck have the Go Devil four? If so the 616 would be an improvement in power.
If it was me though, I would keep it stock unless the engine is shot. Of course you can do the normal thing and stick a Mercury flathead in it:D |
I would love to have a 616 in the little truck I was going to use all the time, but I would keep that "39" stock if I could unless it was a good enough driver to get some real use out of.
I agreed w/ you MH, the 616 is the way to go, Could be interesting getting the rad and oil cooler into that narrow nose tho.
Do you have any more pics of the willys? especially under the hood? that thing is very cool. |
