81 300SD 500SEL for parts?
I have a 82 300SD that runs great but my wife has beat up the exterior a little and the interior has just given up..I guess leather only lasts so long.
Anyway I guy I know has an 82 500 SEL and the interior and exterior are nearly perfect. From my digging around at the pic and pull exept for the engine and trans these cars are pretty much identical. It actully runs well but has a short somewhere so the battery gets drained after a couple days and has a couple minor oil leaks. Am correct that all the interior and exterior parts interchange? I trust the seller so think that $750 is a fair price but might be able to get it for $600. Thanks for any input. Stephen

Some of the panels are a direct interchange. The 500SEL is the long body so the rear doors will not interchange and the inside trim on the doors will not interchange.

thinking.....
I "think" the back doors would be different, since the 500 is a "long bodied" (L designation) w126. In addition, your 300SD would have the vacuum cut off part attached to the ignition and the 500SEL would not.
Vacuum pods, light switches, seat parts, carpet (with the exception back seat floor pieces) should be the same. ACC may NOT be the same --- I don't know. Things like power steering pump, alternator, etc might be the same. If I had to guess, the starter is probably not the same. edit: Brian can type faster than me and is not a long winded, "Southern" gentleman.
