Brakes are toast on my 83 300CD Turbo
So I put on the insulated bibs, a long sleeve shirt, a sweatshirt, and the work coat so I could get a good look at the brakes. Got her up on stands and the right rear caliper is leaking. By this time it's 4:30pm here in Mt Clemens so I got on the phone to get parts ordered. Have rotors, pads and new calipers coming in the morning for the rear, caliper rebuild kits, rotors and pads for the front in the morn as well.
Now the weather is not going to cooperate to much tomorrow so I can get them in. Supposed to be 25 degres (much better than today's 8 degrees) but snow is forcast, 4in by late afternoon, another 4in overnight into Sunday. I REALLY want to get the brakes done so I can take her for the first spin. Everyone say a prayer for me that the snow will not be to heavy The parking brake cable is missing on the right rear as well. Gonna leave that for another day, after I get a look on line to see what it's gonna set me back to get that right.

Mine are toasted too on my SD
I ordered New slotted rotors, rebuild kits, ATE brake fluid, corteco (NEVER buy Meyle) lines and mercedes oem pads, all from fastlane. Should have the rest of my stuff by tuesday. I knew my brakes were getting bad, but then I started hearing a grinding noise. I figuered it was a bearing or something bad. Ignored it for two weeks and then decided to check it. No pads left! Its ok, my rotors were shot anyway

On your SD you should have electric pad sensors which fit in a hole in the brake pads. When the brake pads get too thin, these make contact with the rotor and a warning light should come on in the dash. If this did not happen, maybe someone failed to replace the sensors. Better than waiting to hear the metallic scrape so familiar on American cars. In any event I always try to keep my '81 SD stock so I replace them.
