'82 300D - never warms up

The engine temp on my 300D never warms up; it used to get over 80 and stay there no matter what the outside temps, but now it doesn't even get to 40 regardless of the weather or how long I drive it.

I was thinking the thermostat was stuck open. Any other suggestions?

If your temp sender is working that your thermostat would be the culprit I would look for, yes. Having poor interior heat availability would be a dead giveaway! Fortunately, this is an easy fix!

One additional question: does the heater work normally? If not, the engine is indeed not getting warm and the thermostat is the first place to look. If the heater works normally, then the engine is probably OK and you should check the temp gauge and its sender.

Well, I asked the question here prior to investigation - low coolant fixed 90% of the issue. I think I'm going to do the thermostat anyways and see if that brings the temp up the last 10%.
