Idle knob extremely difficult to move.

Hey everyone. I recently took my 240D out of winter storage just to move it around a bit and noticed that in the cold temps (didn't happen in the summer) the idle adjustment knob is almost impossible to move. Is there any lubrication I can perform without dissassembly? Also, where do I look in the engine compartment to look for it's function?

Thanks!

I'd lubricate all connections in the accelerator linkage. I believe the cable attaches in the vicinity of the shut off lever.

Thank you sir! Is there any way of getting some lube inside the cable from inside the car? Maybe after removing the knob?

P.S. Which way must the knob be turned for higher idle?

Are you pressing the gas pedal while turning the knob?

Yup, no difference with/without pedal input.

CCW increases the idle.

I just used mine today - temp here was close to freezing this morning. By the time I got to the end of my street, engine was warm enough to turn it back down.

Increase idle=turn left as in turning up the volume on your radio

Right, mine's like a garden water faucet - CCW = more flow = more fuel. Maybe repeated applications of small amounts of penetrating lubricant to the end of the cable could work its way up the cable.

Thanks for ALL your replies!

Now, I BELIEVE that last summer, turning the knob CW raised the idle speed!! Now, if I am correct, and that IS possible, what the heck is likely the issue?

Does sound like cold lube in the cable. If you can, spray the aerosol lube of your choice on the cable toward the jacket on both ends.
