ALDA system questions

hey all, ive got a couple questions about the alda system on my 82 300SD engine. what im wondering is is it fine to just connect the manifold line right up to the alda box? and what im also wondering is would it be possible to still use the electric valve for the ALDA and put it on a switch? so i would be able to have an economy and a power setting by turning the switch on or off. this engine is getting swapped into my small pick up so i don't have any of the other electronic stuff. thanks

ken

The device that you wish to bypass is the overboost protection solenoid. It's designed to close that line if the manifold pressure exceeds 15 psi. This could occur if you were to lose the function of the wastegate.

If you bypass the device, you lose that protection capability.

There is no benefit to controlling the supply of pressurized air to the ALDA. At low power levels, there is no manifold pressure (no boost) and the ALDA won't advance the rack to provide more fuel. When the boost comes on, the ALDA advances the rack and adds the appropriate fuel for the additional air.
