Remote start on diesel benz?

Anybody running a remote start on their diesel benz?

Just installed an alarm/keyless entry in my SD and it has me thinking about remote start.

I know they sell remote start with provision for glow plugs but nothing for the vacuum shutoff so you would need a vacuum switch. Looking around at my parts stash, I can use a climate control vacuum switch.

Not sure if I even will do it, but I want to know I can.

What would you gain with a remote start on a diesel? Does it even warm up by idling?

Kinda cool idea! Set you Comfort Control on EC and max Temp and start your car remotely. When the coolant temp reaches warm and there is enough for heat, your car will be warmed up by the time you get in and drive! Keep us posted, I'm curious how this goes!

By the way since your in Spokane, that is where I bought one of my cars with IP damage because the owner was running straight Waste Veggie Oil in winter!! Don't be doin' none of that!

Yes. I start it up, then come back in 15 minutes and it's nice and warm inside.

No veggie for me.

iamstuffed, yes it does warm up idling. Takes about 10 minutes @ 30 degrees before its toasty in the car.

I am mostly interested in it for the cars comfort not mine. I like my engines warmed up before I force them to work too hard, and I refuse to sit in a cold car waiting for it to warm up.

(Angry Horn Sound)

Why carbon up your Pre-Chambers (And Glow Plugs) with un-necessary idling?

Block Heater? Almost every MB has one.

Unfortunately it was only 39 degrees today, but I timed it and after 16 minutes the guage is over 40c, with warm air blowing from the vents.

a block/radiator hose heater is a very good idea in cold climates. put one on a timer, and have it start about 2 hours before you need to drive, viola! nearly instant heat. no damage to motor from idling needlessly!

I didn't know that the car would be idling for 15 minutes or more! If your car does not have a block heater, install one on the lower radiator hose. This will save you a lot of money on maintenance costs due to excessive idling. Your car will have a power cord under the left side of the front bumper typically with a 3 prong grounded plug. This is the block heater, which is in the block right behind the starter with a black ribbed wire consisting of 3 wires in it.

I was kinda liking the idea of a remote starter to start my car with a block heater plugged in and the remote would start the engine and turn on the heat about 2 minutes before I drive off.

Really?!

For the last year and a half I've own this car (my first diesel) I've religiously warmed the engine no matter the temperature of the day. I thought it was a good thing with diesels to let them get to the 80C mark before putting them to work. If I've been wrong this whole time, I've got some girlfriend apologizing to do ...
