oh, and parking it on the side only required rotating the earth on it's side... simple!

Excellent, you can be the "Florida regional director", We are running a little short of members so we might have to admit people that have three legged dogs or TDs or something.

I just had a dream the other night that I found a 70's Chevy van for sale (of all things!) with an OM617 turbo and a 5-speed for only $600 at some bizarre little auto shop at the end of a residential street. I didn't want the van but remember thinking I couldn't find a cheap Mercedes to swap the other parts into.

Back to reality, on the 5-speed, do you have to pull up on the gearshift to shift into reverse, like you do on the 4-speed? I would imagine there's some kind of lock-out to keep one from shifting from 5 to Reverse, but with many 5-speeds in other cars you don't have to pull or push anything to shift into reverse, you just shift.

lutzTD,

i know you have such a coupe (i was "jerking his chain".).

further, i believe i've commented that it was a "right purty coupe".

fyi, when i get back from a month in BRD this summer, i suspect i'll have a "manual everything" coupe, too.
(i liked the first one i saw about 20 years ago in K-town. it was EMERALD/Palomino)

AND i'm going to be looking for a W126 coupe over there as well.
(an old friend of mine who retired from the USAF near "K-town" tells me that he'll have me an AMG-modified coupe "picked out" by then. fwiw, his 540SLC is STUNNING & blazingly fast.)

yours, tn46
