Reverse lights switch - 124

'87 300D

My reverse lights aren't going on. The lights will go on if I wiggle the shift lever in "R" and all else looks OK so it must be the switch. I wouldn't really care except I believe the starter interlock is in the same switch so it makes me a bit nervous about a possible future problem starting the car. I took a look under there yesterday and all the connections are clean and snug. Getting a new switch in might be tough, the switch looks like a pretty tight fit. Anyone out there ever change this with the tranny in the car? Any special tools necessary or tricks you can warn me about? I'm not looking forward to this one.

Thanks.
