Got the cruise control to function finally!

I went to the pick & pull this past weekend and snagged a combo switch and cruise switch altogether, as well as a couple extra cruise switches, 2 cruise control electronic boards, and a bunch of other things for the '83 300CD turbo.

I put one of the cruise control electronic boards in and a new switch (mine was snapped off). All it would do was accelerate when the switch was activated. I put the second one in tonight and IT WORKS!!! I took her out onto the interstate and she holds speed very nice.

On another note, I ordered a couple of valve cover gaskets so I can set the valves and get the ol' girl to stop leaking oil at the valve cover gasket. She's not leaking much, but enough to coat the underside a bit. Also have a center support and drive shaft bearing ordered so I can get that replaced. The rubber is wasted. I did check the flex disks and they look to be OK.

When replacing the valve cover after adjusting the valves, make sure that the cover touches the head all around (without the gasket). Sometimes people over-tighten the valve cover bolts and warp the cover. The gasket then doesn't seal well. I believe it's possible to unwarp the cover but I admit I don't know how – my mechanic did mine when I first had the '85.
