Question '80 300D Trans drain plug leak...

Help..MB rookie here..doing inital maintance on new purchase. Changed trans. filter and upon refill leaking at the drain plug. Plug+washer+dip stick tube+washer. When started noticed that previous change someone used a silicon to seal, why can't I get a clean seal without silicon?

Found the problem, leaking between the pan and the threaded insert that is brazed to the pan. Where to find new pan? Quick fix with gasket to seal.
