Relocating conumdrum: what to do with my babies?

That 's right gentlemen my job is forcing me to relocate to the cold New England before august.
My time in Texas has been wonderful; most particularly the benz experience in Dallas. Jimmy, Shell, Dan, Sunny...
Now i have a terrible problem and decision to take. What to do with my benzes? I may have to move in dense urban setting where keeping 3 cars (one of them not-running) with prove to be bordering on impossible.
I am looking for good homes for at least 2 of these puppies.

note that i really would like to keep the 2 W123, so i am still looking for a 300TD engine.

My advice is on your way to New England you stop by Indiana and give me some of your benzes But seriously would a long term storage be an option? If not then I would keep the ones you like the best and sell the others. Good luck

Where you moving to in the area? Even almost until you get into the city proper its possible to have cars around.

The good news - used engines are easier to come by up here. I know of at least two 617 wagon engines up here currently for sale, one turbo, one NA.

Of course the bad news is the whole salt thing. And you have the whole east coast everyone is in way too much of a hurry thing.

Fleeing Telecom perhaps?

The 123 doesn't survive salt very well. You'll need to decide whether to drive it until it rusts out, keep one garaged and undriven all winter, or sell all for something else. The 124 chassis seems to be one of the more rust resistant cars ever built, you might consider swapping into one of those.

Of course, as much as we all love these old cars, it's all secondary to staying employed.

Wow Armando, I hate to hear that you're leaving our fair berg!! I'm glad the job situation appears strong for you though, especially in these times.
Your W116 Mafia Mobile will certainly have issues in a salty environment. Gotta keep the wifes little 240. That car is awesome. Is the other one the wagon that needs an engine?
Keep us posted on the plans and progress, and again, I just hate to see you go. After all, there is only one other forum member I've shared a hotel room with.......

Here is Armando

Well that sucks. Too bad the job has to control us in everything we do.

We have a job for food, clothing and shelter and to have some of the luxeries in life. such as our much loved old MB`s. then the Job dictates where to live, and get rid of things maybe because we have too much, or no where to put it. That is one reason public storages are so popular.

There is not enouigh money to get me to live on the east coast with all the salt, cold etc...
Bad enough living in komicalif.

Maybe this will be temporary for you and you will get back to sunny Texas when you have had enough freezer burn .

That's a shame. It would take an offer similar to what Manny Ramirez turned down to get me to move up there.

(I'm not a baseball fan, but shocked by that guy turning down a 45 million 2 year contract. No love of the game there, that's for sure)

*edit* At least you won't have to park the Mafia-mobile during the summer... Not much of an AC issue up there. Chad seems to be pretty good at rust proofing; perhaps you should get some tips from him.

Bummer about having to thin the herd. Depending on where you're headed it might not be an issue. That black 116 would look purty parked in my driveway... Where in N.E. will you be headed? Northern, southern?

We welcome you to the great whitish Northeast. You'll be stronger for it.

BTW there's a helluva market for rust free southern and western cars here. If you do have to liquidate it might be worth your while to get them all up here to sell.

^^ that is the hickup here. The W116 has had rust issues even in Texas. So it would litterally fall apart in one winter up here.
The 240D is very nice and would hate to see it fall to the rust. The 300TD has the problem of not working right now, otherwise the body is sound. I really would like to take them with me but how much can a storage for 3 cars run in Boston? Worcester?

You could probably find winter storage for your car in someone's free garage bay on craigslist for $100-150. Im lucky enough to put my summer car in a relatives garage. I have seen W116's in junkyards around here. Its not pretty, they rust so fast! There are none driving around, I never see them.

Your summer driving season here is about April 15th until Nov 15th ish, when they put the first dose of salt on the roads.

If you are super vigilant you can stay on top of the rust problem, or so im told, through frequent washes and yearly checks. Especially for a season or two on your 240D if this is a temporary situation.

On the bright side, you dont have to worry about A/C :-)

Let me know if I can be of any help. I know the Boston area well if you are trying to pick a place to stay from afar.

I feel your pain; 7+ years ago while un-employed; we moved to the Memphis area from sunny Orlando. While I have mostly adapted, I do still miss Orlando.

You know there's a 300TD engine sitting in the junkyard here --- car was in a wreck about 11 months ago. The odometer said 185K --- of course, we know that may or may not have been a working odometer.
