Glow plug light flickers on...
My 1992 300D 2.5 Turbo's glow plug light has begun to flicker on. It comes on for a minute now and again, and it's happening after the car's up to normal operating temperature.
Also, when started cold (and the glow plug light goes out after appearing to have cycled properly), the car now idles rough initially, like it's bogging down on an ultra-rich fuel mixture...to cure this symptom I've waited until the oil pressure's up and blipped the throttle a few times-seems to clear it's throat so to speak. So, is one or more of my glow plugs starting to fail? How much to change 'em all (parts & labor time)? Thanks in advance

Sounds like one or more bad, or going bad. Cost $14.71 ea through FastLane, don't know on labor.

I have never had the pleasure, but it should be about as difficult as replacing spark plugs. How-to replace Glow plugs can be found by following the red link.
Hope this helps. PS: It's even for the correct model

I had the same symptom on my 300D 2.5. The plugs are easy to do, you just have to be PATIENT. The easiest way to get to them is from the UNDERSIDE of the manifold, while you are standing on the drivers side. Trust me, I have done them all this way.
Good luck! Try testing the glow-plugs at the relay. To find the relay, follow a plug wire to the connecter where they all meet. Unplug the connecter and test for resistance. The bad plug(s) will give a reading that is far off from the other plugs. Good luck!! |

Take the intake manifold off, it will be alot easier. Clean it while its out and disable your EGR to prevent that soot build up.

The intake manifold was off my car recently-I'd like to avoid repeating this procedure as there's a lot to it. According to the service CD, it looks like a straightforward deal-I'll let everyone know as soon as the parts arrive and I tackle it.
