'92 300d 2.5 Headlights will not come on

My daughters left Headlight became dim, seems to be in the harness close to the left headlight connecter. Then the headlights went out completely… the bright beam blue indicator light on the instrument cluster is on and not headlight as all now. The fog lamps work as to the turn signals, and brake lights etc. One other odd thing the glow plug indicator lamp came back on after the engine had started and was operating fine…

Any ideas is there a headlamp relay or such that has failed? Location of relay? Is it in the buse box area? Thanks!

Hal

Grounds

On Mercedes the Ground wires are covered in Brown insulation.
There is a Main Grounding point behind that left front headlight
And ditto the right front headlight.
There is also a main Grounding Point behind the Instrument Cluster.
MBs are Notorious for bad grounds.

The little bullet shaped fuses can be tricky...
'Looks Good, but has hairline crack and is Bad.
You want "Ceramic" fuses with Copper or Brass metallic portions.
(I just threw out all my old fuses, and replaced with new ones)

Fuses in the headlamp/foglamp system:
#2 (16 Amp)
# 8,13,14,15,16 (8 Amp)

N7 the External Lamp Monitoring relay COULD be iffy...Eliminate everything else first...the price will raise your blood pressure.

there may be a problem with the Rotary Light Switch itself.

1.Clean and Tighten all the Brown Ground Wire connections behind each headlamp unit.
2.Fuses.

EDIT: The Re-Lighting of the Glow light could point towards a "Hinky" Electrical portion of the Ignition Switch...
key gets moved slightly enough to restart glow cycle
(OR Ign. elec. is loose and restarts glow cycle.)
Does Her Highness sport one of those key rings that could double as an
Anchor for the "Nimitz" (CVN-68) ?

Maybe both burned out...? Does your blower for the heater/ac work? Check your fuses. My blower fuse went and took a headlight out, or visa versa...Got a new light and fuse and everything was back to normal.
