Diesel: Two cylinders, four pistons, no head, no valves
Wow! I posted the Deltic Diesel stuff on another forum. Someone who works for this company replied. What an absolutely amazing engine. Let the page load and an animated engine appears.

The little 13.5 hp is much smaller than a regular 13.5... that is cool.

Just a variation of the old Junkers/Fairbanks-Morse engines, like the Deltic.

It looks like it would be really easy to bend the long con-rods for the outer pistons if you were to accidentally hydro-lock it.

Another variation, sure, but it's simpler with its single crank.
Making things simpler is innovation. |

The original turbocharged diesel engine of this type design was very reliable and used in some german bombers in the second world war.
One downside of their design at that time was the engines very slow response to speed change demands. I was fortunate enough to visually examine one at an aircraft collection in Ottawa, Canada. Before that I was aware they had existed. Never occured to me I might ever get to see and examine one. That engine must have been designed in the thirties. |

I think the removal of a crankshaft is a big advance. They're getting 650hp out of 450lbs.

Interesting, seems like it has very good power to weight ratio approaching 1lb per hp but they are seemingly being used as stationary and fixed load motors.
I imagine the balancing of the torques from the moving parts must have been an interesting task for the engineers and performing all of the harmonic balancing of which I am sure required a slide rule or two. |

They're working on aviation applications. Seems it would be a great engine for airplanes.

Another design I ran across. (I honestly thought 'new polish engine' was going to be some warped joke.)
