Gas Mileage
Hi,
I've driven my "new" 1981 300D for the last week and it is a pleasure to drive. The engine pulls strong. My calculations for fuel mileage gave an impresive 28.4 mpg under the following conditions: -sea level location -100 % city driving. Lots of stop lights. -Light foot on gas pedal -Tire pressure OK -wheel balance OK -Alignment OK -empty trunk -only myself in the car all week long I still haven't changed all the lubrication fluids nor filters. I haven't adjusted valves (shame on me), I don't know when it was last done. My question is: am I at the upper level of fuel efficiency, or is there room for improvement? Will new fluids and a valve adjustment provide a noticeable increase in fuel mileage? The 28.4 mpg is a good indication of the condition of the engine? Thank you very much. |
