Gas Mileage difference

Hi all

I've notice quite a bit of difference in the gas mileage between my car (98E-320) and my sister's (99E-320) with the same V-6 engine. I have about 18-24 mpg while she has 23-30 mpg. Neither car has any engine mod nor any problem at all. I don't drive my car very hard either. Both cars have under 60,000 miles. The only thing that I notice is that my (98) car ride a little firmer - So what gives?

Thanks in advance
JeffreyP

I think what Sixto is getting at is the difference between drivers and conditions. I think it is a very ingenious idea. But I am easily impressed...

i can stretch a tankful of gas to last two weeks, or be done with it in four days. same distance, basically just going to work and back.

your gas milage will vary depending on how aggresively you drive, how low/ high the air pressure is in your tires, how well maintained your car is, how much crap you have in the trunk.

i left half moon bay (50M south of san francisco) with a full tank and got home (san fernando valley, north los angeles) with about a 1/4. on the way there i had to stop and top up twice. going there i was in a hurry and didnt know how remote the areas were that id be passing through so i didnt want to run out of gas. i kept it above 1/4. but i was pressing forward and gettin a move on.

i must averaged 70 on the way back. chilled behind some slow ass trucks while convoys of traffic edged past 5 mph faster in the fastlane. i was in no hurry.

Next time you make that trip take 101 south and then 25 to Hollister and on south; 25 ends at 198, so go east to Coalinga, then south on 33 through the valley and up over 5000 foot Pine Mountain Pass in the Las Padres National Forest to Ventura. Watch 198 and 33 through the valley as the CHP runs beats on those roads, but 25 and 33 through the Forest are like having your own private race track.

Little traffic and getting around SUVs and big rigs on the two-lane is easier than getting by the strings of them on I-5.

The above drive is almost as good as spending a day hot lapping a race track! If you want to enjoy driving as is was 40 or 50 years ago, but in a modern car, the above route is the hot ticket.
