I think that could be duplicated with a rattle can of flat black.

The guy I got my 240D from had sanded down all the hub caps to flat silver. It looked pretty nice until I lost one of them. I ended up getting a different color hub cap from my former boss who had extras for his 300D. Since it didn't match I sanded it down and then spray painted all of them a metallic textured matte black, which I think looks pretty good. I should have put a priming coat on them though because the paint is chipping off in places.

Solid black wheels (or gun metal) looks good in my book. Not a fan of chrome, or the original matching color hubcaps.

It looks good with some body colors - but then there would be others that probably wouldn't look good. Like Maple

How do u paint them black self etching primer? no way u can get sandpaper into the whole in the w123 wheels or am i thinking of different type than whats on my 82 w123?

That's definitely true. A lot depends on the body color.

argus, I think you have the nicer allow wheels. Mine are the regular ones with hub caps :

Yah mines white but my nice alloys look like crap where i cant get too and polish up *sigh* i'm not much on a white car but i looked forever to find one wasnt the color rust. IDK how u guys up north do it i ended up getting a flordia car most salt it seen was prolly a hurricane or 2 blow thru.
