I am, too, actually. The 124 was the last of the Daimler Benzes. My interior looks new.

id go for the w124. I have owned two of them and they are well built cars. Yes i have had the no boost turbo issue but is cured by the pressure operated wastgate swap. and egr delete. I would not hesitate to buy another one tomorrow if i new it was in good mechanical and cosmetic condition.

Or if you want the performance of the '98/'99 E300D Turbo, in a 124, buy an '87 300D Turbo which has good hp (especially with the trap-ox removed), less complexity, and IIRC a better power-weight ratio.

Correct. The '87 is barely more complicated than a late-model 300D-T (W123/OM617) and comes with significant improvements--better suspension, more power in a smoother, quieter no-valve-adjust engine. Make sure the trap cat recall has been performed (still free at your local dealer), then defeat EGR and hose out the intake manifold. If you can get one with a late-model head (#22), so much the better, but even a #14 head can be trouble-free if you don't blow up the cooling system.

IMHO, the later 124s didn't get any better, they just got more complicated. (YMMV)

Not according to the keepers of the "T" and the "D" aka Jimmy.

BTW: you missed the Highland games this year. They were last weekend.

Nope, refer to the Trunk Badge of Truth for the correct nomenclature......

Been promising to make a trip Up North to visit friends in Oregon and Washington . . . maybe September . . . did get to go canoeing last week, had a great time. Put the canoe (17 foot Weh-no-nah Spirit II) on the '96 for the first time, it did great (29 MPG at 65 MPH).

FYI, Jeremy is a big time contributer here, so while his terminology might need a bit of tweaking, his contributions should be duly noted.....

You could have gone to the Highland games last weekend, spent the week, and then stopped by the NW GTG on your way home.

The '85 says "300D . . . Turbodiesel"

The '87 says "300D . . . Turbo"

The '96 says E300 . . . Diesel"

Take your pick. "300D-T" is faster to type and avoids confusion with 300TD.
