The Torque That Glow Plugs Break Off At When You Try To Take Them Out

I was on Ebay checking the price of Beru Glow Plugs and found that one of the Sellers gave some information on the plugs (however these Gps were not for Mercedes they are Gps for a Ford Escort).

He listed something called a “Failure Moment [Nm] 45.

Could it be that BERU can supply a spec telling at what torque their Glow Plugs will break off at for those long breakage prone Glow Plugs like go on the 606 Engines?
And, could that spec be used to try to avoid breaking them when you take them out?

Tightening Torque [Nm] 22
Failure Moment [Nm] 45
Port Type M4/2Nm
Cone Pitch 63°
Fitting Depth [mm] 21
Overall Length [mm] 67
Thread Size M 12x1,25
Spanner Size 12 mm
Glow Plug Type Pencil-type Glow Plug
Glow Plug Type After-glow capable
Rated Current [A] 14
Voltage [V] 11

A forum member failure tested 606 style pencil Beru's in a vise.

They all separated between 80 & 90NM.

Do you know where on the glow plug the vise was clamped? I am collecting used 606 glow plugs (two so far) and plan a similar test when I get a few more.

Jeremy - I believe they were held on the barrel of the GP and twisted apart at the threaded area.

I saved the tread. I'll send it to you this evening.

Get 2 nuts that have the same threads as the Glow plugs and see if you can Jam Nut them together on on the Glow Plug. Tighten the vice on the nut closest to the 12mm hex end of the Glow Plug.

Jeremy - See post #17

I'd like to see the same done with Bosch plugs. The nut area is about 50% smaller than that on a Beru plug.
