Hi, yes, a guy here "Mdisav" had done this. I can't remember the turbo he used though. I think a VGT would be awesome as a stock replacement on these cars. The lag is just crazy...

Mdisav had a custom header welded up along and used a hybrid T3/T4 turbo. It's possible that the three-bolt flange on the stock manifold will allow some of those variable turbos to be used. But I've yet to see an affordable and professionally designed means of boost control in these non-stock applications--which steers me away from them for now.

Don't forget that simply increasing air isn't enough -- you have to look at the fuel side of the equation too. How much power will the injection pump on the W210 support?

Cheers, John

Really? From what I remember reading, the turbo 606's peak torque starts at like 1800 rpm..must be without the turbo working very much.

If that's the case, a VGT would turn that into a real monster!

I'm not sure on how much power a 606 could make, but the IP has 6mm plungers vs the 603's 5.5mm..and the stock IP on the 603 can make about 175-180 hp without any major work. I'd say at least 200 with the 606.

The "butt dyno" registers nothing until at least 2500rpm or so on the 606 turbo, at least in my experience. It's great once you get there.

Cheers, John

200 to 225hp is easily attained on the 606.962 by chipping it.

I can tell you based upon my experience that chipping does help with the off-the-line performance. Before doing any hardware mods I would suggest trying the stage II chip from Speedtuning and see how that feels. There are one or two extra tweeks they can do while they chip it which will help too...ask Oliver about it.

It may just be mine but if you floor it from a stndstill, it's a good 3 count before it takes off like a rocket. It's enough to cause some concern when pulling out in traffic if you're not ready for it.

IMHO, if you don't want to spend a fortune, a GREAT setup on these cars would be a VGT and a chip from STUSA. It would combine higher peak HP levels with great off the line throttle response.
