Is this Motor Toast? 617.

I went to look an SD tonite, build date 7/83
224k on the clock
clean, rust free, and appears well maintained.
Car was donated, but does not run so donation gave
car for scrap to towing company= no history.

Now, as for not starting.

When I turn the key, I hear a click @ the starter, but that is it.
motor will not turn. Put a wrench on the PS Pump, and still no go.
I pull the dipstick and the oil is plenty full, and dirty, not
fresh oil.

What would have caused this to lock up?
Is it locked up, or something else?

No way to tell from the limited information you gave, I don't think. It does not sound good though.

Would it be possible for the starter to jam in there and
keep the motor from turning?

The only other thing I can come up with is a bad oil pump.

I second this. Does the dome light dim when it "clicks", if not then the solenoid is not engaging the starter. Try giving the solenoid a good whacking. If it won't turn with a wrench though....it might be locked up.

Yes, the lights do dim. I bekieve the click I am hearing is the solenoid.

Although I have never seen a jammed starter I suppose its possible.

I second pulling the valve cover.

Drop the oil pan to see the collection of parts..

when my chain broke at 65mph, the only thing I found in the pan were some small pieces of plastic and a few small metal pieces off the chain.

there was nothing in the filter to see.

Can you get a ratchet on the crank? The PS belt can slip easily

Yes but if the lights dim it sounds like a jammed starter, if they did not really dim then the solenoid would not be completing the circuit.

(or its possible the battery is shot? is it a good one?)

The belt on the PS pump was plenty tight to spin a good motor, I
am just hoping against evidence that it is a simple fix. I really hate to see
a car like this go.Any one interested in it? The guys asking price is $650.

I don't have the time or place to R/R a new engine into it, although I
would really love to....................

That's a known starter issue noise. Could be wiring corrosion, the starter could use a hammer whack, or it may be another issue. After the starter then move on to other causes.

Pulling the valve cover is about a fifteen minute job.
