Cruise control sets but won't hold

92 300D 2.5 turbo. The cruise will set or accel but it does not stay on all the time. It seems worse at higher speeds. Once it is set sometimes it works for a while and dropes off but if I hit resume it tries to reset. Other times it only sets for a second but if you hit resume it tries to reset.
Any Ideas where to start?

most likely the little cruise 'computer' under the dash near the driver's legroom.

ps.. if you figure out a way to fix it, make sure to fill us in.

Mine doesn't work either. I am going to try the "resoldering" fix mentioned in the forum archives. Search for it and you will see what I mean.

So far checked all data pro and saw that tire size is critical. changed rear tire to matching tire and cruise now sets and stays for a few miles than starts surging and loses lock. Hit resume and sets for a few more miles and loses lock again. Any ideas?

are you running dif size tires? if so, bad idea.

99/100 its cruise amp, you can try resoldering if you have jedi knight skills and a whole lot of patience, or just call the benz store and get a rebuild for $160 and be done with it.

test the actuator per GDL online procedure 1st, of course.

are there any warning signs its going out?

are there any warning signs its going out?

my '95 E300 Diesel feels like a supple mechanical bull when I have it set, at any speed....

it first started on going downhill, and I've only had the car for just over 10k miles... so I figured it was just its way of holding back. now it does it on level ground too

when mine was kicking out after setting, it turned out to be the actuator under the hood. mine is still wonky though, strangly enough it never works in the moring on the way to work, but it always works on the way home in the afternoon. also, since my speedo is 40% slow, I need to be going a minimum of 75 or so to get it to engage, this is around 55 on the speedo

Mine has lost its mind as well. Swapped out servo/actuator - still behaves the same. Sometimes it works, sometimes I have to fight with it like an ex-wife.

My unit is under the passenger floorboard. You have to carefully remove the circuit board from the aluminum housing and check the underside of the board for loose solder connections. Sometimes you can see a carbonized component, most of the time it remains a mystery. You can render a cruise amp worthless for core by doing this. Maybe its just best to pull it and get a reman from here
