The Old Girl has to go

The time has come to trade up to a new car.
I am looking at a 1991 300D turbo. Everything appears to work properley. In mint condition all over.
Are there any bad points that I should know about befor I buy this car. The Asking price is $8,900. Can. from a used car dealer that specilized in MB and BMW cars only
Is the 6 cylinder diesel a good one or problematic. What about ease of working on the engine compared to a 85 300D turbo
Thanks

Shouldn't that car have the OM602 5 cylinder engine?

Yes it should. That is way over priced IMHO. It should have every service record since day 1 for that price. Every last item should work. Yes I realize you said $CAN, but even with the exchange that is too much to pay.

$8,185.56 USD on 7/29/2009.

Where are you in CA?

Yow- I know stealers are marking up diesels due to the fluctuating gasoline prices, but this seems very high to me for an 18 year old 300d.

Ouch! I recently bought a 2005 Subaru Outback for $1000.00 more than that!

Price is twice what it should bring unless there's something VERY special about that car.

If it was last November I would have bought it for that!

I ended up with a M103 300E.....and it has been reliable and fun....so it helps.

My diesel has been down for weeks....its hard to not have a diesel to drive!

Wrong ID Perhaps

Here are some pics of the car in question. It was imported from Japan one year ago and driven by the owner here from that time. The car is in Vancouver, BC
PS The service records are all in the trunk but are in Japanese.
The kilometers seem to be on target for the required services.

I doubt the car was originally from Japan, their cars are right hand drive. I don't know if they are ALL RHD but I would imagine those originally imported to that market would be in order to comply with its DOT (or equivalent) regulations. Does look like a nice one though - however I agree it is probably still overpriced.

Some of the best vintage benzes come out of Japan, and they are left hand drive. I would be concerned if you plan registering it in the US.

Its also been upgraded to the '94-95 look. Nice!

A local dealer in San Diego has had a 91 300 D on his lot for a couple of years. 70,000 miles. I think part of the problem is that they're asking $13,995. Real nice looking car. But wow.

I would call him a curator not a dealer. If he's had a car for 2 years, he must be running a museum.

Nice looking car, but the dealer is definitely using some type of price-inflating narcotic.

Price should be about half, less if there is anything wrong with it. Keep looking.
