Glow plug timer relay upgrade??????

Hi all, I'm looking at swapping out the old 30 second glow controller for the later version variable and post starting glow controller for a better start. You the one, with the after glow.
I'm having problems with the pins. What goes where? I can match up the pins from old to new with the same numbers on the controller but what are the extra pins for? It seems that the later version is mounted under the bonnet while mine is under the dash.

Has anyone done this yet? I'm open to suggestions. I could just fit an aftermarket controller but the Mercedes one is cheaper.

it would help to know the year of the car you're upgrading.

i believe the earlier ones had the relay under the dash and the newer ones had the relay under the hood by the tach amp. my 83 300D has the relay under the hood. if this is the case, you might not be able to do this upgrade with the parts you bought.

but i'm in over my head, someone else needs to confirm this.

The afterglow relay has a fifth pin for a 50*C coolant temp switch. The other four pins are shared with the previous generation relay - +12V in run, ground, +12V in start, glow light.

If you have the loop style GPs you will need to swap those for the newer "pencil' style to be able to use a 'faster' relay, which comes with the GP upgrade "kit" and will be re located under the bonnet.
