Ive done it one time, after running out of fuel used 1 qt,Ive read it here somewhere that some guys here do all the time with no problems. How much to you add,and also do you filter it out?Want about the worn metals in that old oil, this would seem to more cause wear ? This cant be good to the IP. 83 300D 233000

I've never burned UMO but I did just put a few qts of old but unused ATF in my tank. I figured it was better to use it myself than donate it to a recycler. I've wondered about carrying a metal fuel can in my trunk for emergencies. I need to research fuel preservatives I guess. How long will diesel last in a metal storage can?

If you're talking about an emergency, I carry two quarts of ATF in the trunk.

Diesel keeps for a very long time, provided there is no condensation/water. A little biocide will help also.

I guess filling a few quart containers with diesel fuel would suffice also (easier to store than a fuel can).

My diesel motor oil comes in 1 gallon containers. Maybe one of those filled with diesel would suffice.

I run up to 40%.I use my heaters just like wvo.It stinks so I run it in winter. My highest fuel mileage was 37 mpg on 30% wmo.It has more power than regular diesel.I filter mine to 5 micron, already mixed with diesel.

About 2-3 weeks ago there was another Thread on this same subject.

The other Thread:

There is also an Older and longer Thread from a year or more ago somewhere.

That's what I was thinking. Again, already? The forum search feature works very well here. -sigh-

I do, I use a centrifuge that is filtered to 2 microns, and blend with a 50/50 blend of diesel fuel.

Scott98 10-01-2009 05:22 PM

I never even thought of that. Why not recycle my old motor oil (after filtering it) and mix it with diesel?

The problem is soot in used oil, which I am not sure you can filter out to nil, which means scoring and scratching of the engine internals. I don't know that anyone can predict the impact on longevity, but why change your oil if you don't worry about those soot particles?

In an emergency, motor oil, cooking oil, fresh tho. I had to change a fuel filter at a friend's house, no oil to fill the filter, used corn oil. Everyone got a kick out of that!

I like the idea (vaguely) seems like better disposal, the reality is more pollutants end up coming out the exhaust, if only more soot. I am trying to get to 500K on mine.

Could be wrong, maybe I have as much soot in there even as I write this. Anybody done soot level analysis? Ok, ok, checking the archives.....

I know a few shop owners that do this religiously, many thousand miles with no issues but its gotta be filtered. while you are at it, just use heated filtered dewatered veg oil in a proper 2 tank system and kick the opec addiction almost entirely.

It's not worth the trouble, diesel fuel is cheap and injection pumps are expensive. Also, the less I have to handle used oil the happier I am. Just recycle you oil.

turbobenz 10-01-2009 08:14 PM

Less handling? I drain my oil or atf into a sealed collection thing and put the spout in the tank filler and empty it. I just make sure theres no dirt on the top of the tub before i drain oil into it.

Not even filtered?

Good luck with that.

Don't we have a tank screen, pre-filter and high efficiency main filter? Seems like by the time It gets to your injection pump it would be pretty well filtered????
