Thanks SEV!

This confirms my worst fears. Quite possably THE worst place to put mid drivers.
I suppose you could put subs in there?

Guess this means custom pods.....

Anyone have good speaker mounting ideas?
I've gone through the interior section, and that place is just dead.

you should check out the w126 specific forums out there for custom door panel mods. you can put subs in there, so long as the depth is the same as the stock mids, plus no more than like a centimeter. remember the window glass has to go all the way down. there are custom subs that are shallow for this exact purpose.

Maybe I can do something along these lines. Seal off the pocket with some ABS glued in, maybe wrapped in vinyl, and a couple of 4" or 5" drivers.

Hmm.

How big is the factory speaker, 6"? Diamond has made pretty shallow speakers, not the best sound. Free air subs seem to be getting harder and harder to find.

Carry on...

this has been done several times before. all you need is a dremel, some cheese cloth and some fiber glass

I don't see anything for a W126 at www.jenhert.de but look at these Jenhet W124 mods from gsxr's photo library -
