Diesel rubber return lines.
How often should I have to replace return line rubber hoses? I seem to have one or more start leaking more than I think they should. Why did MB not use hose clamps or longer lasting return lines on 617 SD"s? R L Lepper

Not sure of any particular interval, just keep an on 'em and replace when they leak.

return lines (fuel injectors) are not under pressure. No need for clamps.

At least 5 years, probably closer to a decade. Make sure that you are buying diesel line.

I bought extra when there was a good price on eBay (I have 2 diesels that use the same return line). I keep some in the trunk becaue Fuel is too expensive to run around Town leaking it.
Regular automotive Vacuum line will only hold up a week or so. Some alternative local sources of the real return line are the VW Dealer (used on the older 1980s VW Rabbits) and National Auto Parts (NAPA). If you decide on Viton Lines Members say the Thicker Wall Thickness ones are better. I do not know if it is in the DIY links but there are several threads on alternative Fuel Return Line People have Tried.

Mine used to last about 5 years. I've only used dino fuel and since I had to switch to ULSD, the return lines seem to be an annual replacement job.

I got six months out of non-oem hose from **********. Replaced with OEM hose that has lasted over a year now, and counting.
