Oil price thread

Check me before a make a major investment in several gallons of Mobil Delvac 1300 Super SAE 15W-40. Reason: Currently on sale at O'Reilly Auto Parts Stores. $12.99/gallon; but buy one, get one free. It's been a long time since I've seen any oil at $1.62/quart. I've been using Shell Rotella T and paying $49.99 for a 5 gallon pail.

Question: These two oils are close enough in properties to switch back and forth with no issues, right?

It's actually 15W40 petro oil, not 5W40 synthetic.

I corrected my typo. It is 15W-40.
Gee, looks like I can get the two for $12.99 and the rebate.
What a deal!

I've now corrected 14 to 15 twice and discovered my keyboard 5 is sometimes electing to register as a 4.

No response to the original question:
Any reason not to switch between Delco 15W-40 and Rotella T 15W40? $25.98 for 4 gallons (2 free limit) and the above link for rebate is $14.00 for 4 gallons. If they honor that, that's really cheap oil at $11.98 for 4 gallons.

No good reason. But that usually doesn't prevent an onslaught of hearsay and wive's tales that suggest it would be a terrible idea.

Thanks for the tip.

I picked up 4 cases for the price of 2.

One store was out of the Delvac, so they sold me Delo 400 for the same price.

O'Reillys is notorious for not having sale items in stock. ("Keep checking back," they say.) Keep in mind, though, that other parts stores will match prices.

Very true. I actually prefer the Delo, so, in this case, it worked out fine.

Rotella T 5-40 $19/gal today at Walmart.
I bought 2 gals and it should have been 3 since the Cummins is due for a change and it takes near 12 qts!

As long as you don't mind losing the $3.50/gal rebate from Mobil.
