Seems pretty fast, the Z4 isn't a dog. To bad we can't get any of the good diesels in this country.

I'm a bit surprised that it didn't puff out any black smoke under hard acceleration....oh how the times and technology has changed.

New diesels just don't smoke like they used to. All the newer equipment hardly smokes at all. The 2008 Cat 304 might put out a fine puff on the coldest days.

I'd not mind one of those.

You guys need to look at some BMW 335d/535d videos. 272hp, 413ft-lb, all out of a 3 litre straight 6, what a beast.

Don't count out Mercedes basic 4 cylinder diesel unit. About 200 hp and 369 ft-lb.

I'm too young/poor to go for a test drive, but I know theyre out somewhere and 535d's are definitely available in the UK, as I regularly see them wafting along at 90mph, probably turning about 1500RPM...

Heres a 335d, American user?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnKNHQPznPk

Yes

I have yet to see one on the road, though At least they tried to market them pretty well with the diesel commercials they had on.

Yes, available in the US right now. But automatic transmission only.

Just went to BMW's website. BMW isn't going to sell many of them, since they start at $10k more than a gas 3 series. F that, I can get an E320CDI for pretty much the same money and its more car.

How is a E320CDI more of a car than a 330D that has twin turbo engine? Go grab a taco think about what you said then come back.

The W211 is a larger car. It competes with the 5 series not the 3.

330d competes with the MB C class. 330d is the competitor to the C30 CDI AMG. If BMW sold a 530d here, that would be the E320CDI competitor.

Also, the 330d is NOT a twin turbo. It's a dual-stage turbo configuration. One turbo is very small and the other is larger. I.e. they are not "twins". The smaller one kicks in just off of idle, and the larger one does its thing at higher rpm's.

If MB sold the C30 CDI AMG with a 6-speed manual here in the US, I would buy one TODAY. As in right now, I would leave work this instant and go to the MB dealer and buy one. MB USA, are you listening?
