Where do you buy diesel from, and why?
Just bought a 82 300SD a few weeks ago and the PO says only use BP diesel because of the Cetane rating. Trouble is, there are no BPs out here. Just fueled with Marathon and hoping it's OK. Don't know where to find the Cetane rating..

Where ever it is the cheapest
![]() I have yet to get a bad batch of diesel. I used to fill up at a kwik fill and now I fill up at Hess. Diesel tends to be priced about the same here. 2.71$ gallon. When I was in Mass last weekend they were selling Low sulfur diesel at this one station for 2.35$ ![]()

I prefer to use truck stops, as i'm only 20 minutes from I71, there are a few... Flying J, etc.... but if i'm around town, I usually stick to a large label company, as there a few hole in the wall filling stations around here.... worse case, if you get a tank full, that doesn't seem to be as good as the last, pick up some cetane booster... I keep some in my trunk, at all times

From the alternative fuels island at the Pentagon filling station. That's the only place that sells B20 near by. All pumps at this station are for DoD employees only - except the alternative fuels pumps which are open to the public. Thanks Department of Defense!

I wouldn't worry about brand, just try to stop at places that move a lot of fuel.

In most cases, diesel fuel is "brandless" until it gets pumped into the delivery tanker at a distribution facility. Then the name on the side of the truck establishes the brand.

Then why do some pumps sell 40 cetane, others sell 42 cetane, and others have 45 cetane? I saw a 47 cetane pump once too.

I used to always go to truck stops which thankfully aren't that far away from me, stops such as Pilot and Flying J only because I know their Diesel is awesome and the price is okay, plus it's fun to fill at the truck pump when they're not busy. You could probably fill your tank up in like 15 seconds the way the truck pumps pump!
![]() But their prices haven't been all that great lately so I now put in at chevron which is the most inexpensive in my area at $2.69 and I have yet to get bad Diesel from Chevron. I will fill up at Valero sometimes because they have good prices and I have never gotten bad fuel from them and I also go to 76 when the price is right. 76 is awesome too because Diesel has its own island so you don't have to wait for 90 year ladies to fill up their deville's at a pump with Diesel lol ![]()

Wherever it's cheapest, with the exception of Eagle Gas in Carson City. I used to buy fuel there and never had a problem myself, but I've heard enough bad stories about water in their fuel that I stopped buying there.

alamo biodiesel
B100 from reclaimed WVO. Jason has a great buisness model (sells for less than market price for D2 in town), a great product (he won't sell if he doesn't feel comfortable running his product in his own w124), it is as green as it gets for mechanized transportation, and I am supporting a local buisnessman rather than a multinational corporation bent on profits who also funnel $$ to countries that don't much care for US.

I have to say that around these parts Sunoco gives me the best MPGs and it is also usually the cheapest fuel near me. It is not just a placebo effect either. When I fill up with Exxon, Mobil or Shell my mileage goes down by at least 5%- 10%.

Chevron for me @ $2.89 a gallon. Some Union 76 stations have it but they're way overpriced like the one on Lombard in San Francisco where it goes for $3.48 or some garbage like that.
