OM617 into 404 Mog, bellhousing questions

I am in the process of swapping an OM617 into my 404 Unimog rockcrawler. I have pulled the gas motor out and am waiting to pick up my 617 in a few weeks. I have been told that the adapter plate that was bolted to the back of the gas motor (M180) will bolt right up to the back of an OM617.

From the pictures I have seen, this looks to be right, but until I have the 617 at my shop, I cannot be sure. Does anyone know if the Mercedes engines of this vintage use a "standard" bolt pattern to bolt adapter plates to? Thanks.

Contact member CoachGeo. I believe he has a 617 powered Mog. Also try the Unimog forum over at Expedition Portal.

Yea, that post was started by me. I was hoping that someone on a strictly Mercedes forum may have some more definitive answers or information.

Thanks for the link. I will try over there as well. CoachGeo's Unimog has a very expensive aftermarket bellhousing, which allows the OM617 to fit, while still retaining (most of) the the cab. It rotates the motor 13 degrees to the passenger side to clear the drivers side footwell. I do not need this clearance because my Unimog will not have a stock cab/body configuration.
