injector question
I recently acquired 6 injectors from two non-turbo 5 cylinder cars at a pick and pull. My car is an 87 SDL turbo 6 cylinder. I noticed the injectors I pulled have a little disc with three half moon cutouts and these discs are in the top of the injectors just inside the fuel inlet port under the steel fuel line. My injectors do not have these little discs in them. Should I remove these discs for use in my car? I'm taking a wild guess here and thinking these discs are restrictors for non turbo engines?
Can anybody verify or explain this for me? Thanks, Steve |

I believe those are in all the injectors wether they are turbo or not. Though you will have to raise the pop pressure. Your's pop at 135bar the NA injectors pop at 115bar.

The injectors I acquired have the 135 Bar stamp on them so I assumed they are 135 Bar pop pressure but I may be wrong.

The bodies are turbo injectors, but someone may have rebuilt them and shimmed them for 115 bar as well. I'd still pop test them if you have the capability before I put them in. Not only for pop pressure but more so for spray pattern.

Wish I had a way to pop test them but I don't.
Still curious about those little discs since my current injectors don't have them. Steve |

Rebuilders sometimes mix and match the injectors - if they are rebuilt then the stamp on it means almost nothing. You'll need to verify the pop pressure before you put them in. I read this in a thread here a couple months ago when someone got a "mixed bag" of rebuilt injectors. They were all pop tested to proper pressure but had different stamps.

As previously stated not all Injectors have them. It does not show up well in this pic but it is item #13

Hi Steve.

That is a small metal piece designed to reduce the effect of 'fluid hammer' when the injector opens and closes during operation.

I am not sure what the term "Fluid Hammer" applies to but if it concerns pressure waves in the Fuel Injection System the Delivery Valve in the IP is what is supposed to take care of that.
I drug out my more complete pic. from the FSM. This is 2nd hadn info but what I was told in Trade School is that the Metal Edge Filter is there becaues over time pieces of the inside of the Fuel Injection Lines erode and some times break loose and that the Filter is there to deal with them. But this must not be a major issue as most Diesel Injectors do not have that feature.
