I was cleaning the banjo bolt on the back of the intake manifold when i was putting it back I heard that dreaded "Snap". The hard line broke. Would it make a difference if it was replaced with readily avail rubber vac line from the auto parts store or?? This is my first Mercedes / Diesel car. Lovin' the car.

It should work though it may not hold up to the heat in the engine bay.

That line actually registers boost.

It is my thinking that the engineers made the line hard so that the signal would not be delayed and be "immediate". If you use a soft hose, the hose will expand and the associated signal would be lost or not as strong (theoretically).

If it snapped off right at the Banjo Bolt, you could use some JB Weld "quick" to get you buy until you find a piece of the hard line. I imagine you could use any rigid line as long as it is a good fit and is the right "ID", heat resistant, etc...

What will keep a rubber hose from coming off at either end when it is subjected to pressure? The type of material the line is made of not nearly as important as the functional integrity of the line as a conduit as pressure between the manifold and the ALDA, that pressure can be as high as 1 BAR, 14.7 PSI, but usually its down around 10-11-12 PSI.

Hose clamps. Which happens to be precisely what secures the lines at the switchover valve.

Rubber should work as a temporary fix; the hard line is sold at MB dealers by the meter and is cheap . Just had one snap on my 560SEL; I fixed it with duct tape. Please, no laughter

diesel and that soft rubber vac hose are not a good combination, it goes like chewing gum. best keep it away from under the hood of diesels.

use the rubber hose over the hard line. kinda like a patch or shield.

Thanks Bobo. I was just thinking of doing that once I got back home. I figured heck, it's good enough for the valve side, why not the banjo side? And it just so happens I have about a foot of new quality vac line in my box of tricks that I can to length... Thank you for the assurance of what I thinking of doing. Thanks to all who chimed in as I am learning quite a bit about these cars. They are unique for sure.
